There’s something powerful about building a space where creative minds can come together.

That’s exactly what we’ve set out to do here at Melbourneism, to create a platform that celebrates storytelling in all its forms, through words, images, print, and people.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve found comfort in stories — scribbled in notebooks, captured through a lens, or shared in conversation. Creativity has always felt like home to me, and I wanted to build a space where others could feel that too.

That’s how this platform began: as a simple idea to bring together the things I love — writing, photography, and connection. Over time, it’s grown into something bigger than me. It’s become a space for artists, dreamers, storytellers, and collaborators to come together, to share their work, and to be part of something meaningful.

At the heart of Melbourneism lies four key pillars: writing, photography, publishing, and collaboration - here is why they matter to us...

1. Writing: the soul of expression

Writing has always been a way for people to make sense of this crazy world, what better way than to put your thoughts down onto paper hey? We write in a bid to express, to reflect, to spark ideas, to put our minds at ease and to tell stories that move others.

For us, writing is at the core of everything we do...

Whether it’s personal essays, poetry, interviews, or blog posts - we believe in the raw power of words to help us connect. Our platform gives writers of all backgrounds the chance to share their voices and be heard in a space that values honesty, creativity, and depth.

2. Photography: seeing the world through your lens

A single image can say what words sometimes can’t...

So to fill that void, we have Photography - a ticket which allows us to capture the in-between moments — the feeling in a face, the mood in a shadow, the beauty of everyday life. We encourage photographers to share work that speaks, tells stories and captures something real and by sharing it on our platform, it is exposed to a wide audience with similar interests.

Whether shot on film or digital, photography is a powerful form of creative storytelling, and we’re proud to make space for it here - our Instagram posts & website based photographic portfolios take you on a journey through the barrels of a lens, one artist at a time.

3. Publishing: our own magazines, our own way

There’s something magical about holding a printed magazine in your hands — it feels intentional, permanent, and personal - for a writer or photographer, publishing your work is a way to turn something that is completely digital into a tangible physical being that is alive.

You are essentially giving birth to your own work when you publish a hard copy of it.

That’s why we publish our own magazines, curating each edition with love and care. These issues showcase the work of our community, combining writing and photography into something tangible and timeless. It's our way of celebrating creativity in its most tactile form.

We are only just starting with our publications; we will be releasing more as time goes on in the hope that we can get a cool community of readers and publishers a like.

4. Collaboration: the beating heart of our platform

No great creative movement happens in isolation, hence why we are always on the move...

Collaboration is what keeps us alive, evolving, and inspired - collaborating is how we spark the magic inside us, this what happens when writers and photographers work together, when creatives from different corners of the world share their perspectives, when community becomes a catalyst for growth.

This platform isn’t just about showcasing work — it’s about making space for people to connect, support, and create together.

Personally, collaboration has always meant more to me than just working together...

It’s about connection — the kind that makes you feel seen, supported and part of something bigger. No wonder why some of the most meaningful moments in our creative lives have come from conversations with others, bouncing ideas around, building something we couldn’t have made alone. I

t’s that feeling of shared purpose, of learning from each other and creating something that reflects more than just one voice.

That’s what we hope to cultivate here and this is why collaboration is so important to us.
